Reynolds Homestead, in partnership with Clark Gas & Oil, will present “Pride and Prejudice – A Musical Comedy” theatrical performance at the Star Theatre in Stuart, Virginia, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The performance will be the first musical theatrical performance to be held at the recently revived Star Theatre. The two-act performance includes 18 original songs and runs approximately 2 hours, including an intermission. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for youth 16 and younger. Tickets at the door will be $25 for adults and $18 for youth.

The musical is an adaptation of the novel “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. The plot revolves around Elizabeth Bennet, who loves books. People, however, are another story. Especially people like the pompous Mr. Darcy who threatens to ruin the happiness of her beloved sister Jane. In this imaginative, musical retelling of Austen’s classic novel, the indomitable Elizabeth Bennet attempts to find a happy ending amidst all of life’s follies and inconsistencies, especially her own.

The script and lyrics for the show were written by Tara Raczinski, who also composed the music in partnership with the music director Chris Tilley. Tilley will provide the orchestration for the performance and Raczinski will perform the role of Mrs. Bennet. Hope Cameron-Smith is the director.

Clark Gas & Oil provided financial support to bring this performance to Stuart. “We are thrilled to sponsor this new adaptation of Jane Austen's cherished novel,” said Anna Lester, vice president of Clark Gas & Oil. “We have few opportunities to see theatrical performances in Patrick County, and it’s an honor to be able to bring this production to the historic Star Theatre.”

Lora Mahaffey, president of Bull Mountain Artists, was also instrumental in coordinating the performance. Bull Mountain Arts enthusiastically supports bringing live theater to Patrick County,” Mahaffey said. “We are also happy to provide a limited amount of free youth tickets for the Sunday matinee and give students the opportunity to participate in a special Q and A session with the cast and crew after the performance.”

One Family Productions Executive Director Chris Prutting said, “One Family Productions is honored to host the first musical theater performance at the historic Star Theatre since taking over the daily operations in January of this year. What is even more special is being able to collaborate with our long-time partners at the Reynolds Homestead and Clark Gas & Oil to bring this amazing live performance to Patrick County. It is events like these that will continue to shape Patrick County and the theater as a premier destination for arts and entertainment.”

For more than 50 years, the Reynolds Homestead has been providing arts and culture programs to residents of Patrick County and surrounding counties. “Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel, and I had an opportunity to enjoy a sneak peek at this performance in Greensboro in January,” said Julie Walters Steele, director of the Reynolds Homestead. “I was so impressed, I contacted Tara about bringing the production to Patrick County. Even if you aren’t already a fan of Austen’s work, I think you might become one after seeing this entertaining performance.”

The Reynolds Homestead also acknowledges Lowell’s Hollow for their support in providing lodging for the cast and crew.
